Application Requirements
Thank you for your interest in the Internal Medicine Residency and Fellowship Programs! Information about the service may be obtained from your deans office or from the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC). International medical graduates may obtain information about ERAS through the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).
Please be aware that applications are only accepted through Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS)for both residency and fellowship programs. Categorical Track (NRMP code: 2066140C0).
| Application Requirements:
All candidates must follow the same processes for application and interviewing in order to be considered for the East Tennessee State University (ETSU) Quillen College of Medicine (QCOM) Internal Medicine Residency and Fellowships.
- Complete applications are only accepted through the ERAS program. No faxed, mailed and/or emailed applications will be accepted.
- Resident applications are typically accepted through October 15th.
- Fellowship applications are accepted through September 1st.
- All candidates must have U.S. citizenship, U.S. Permanent Resident Card (U.S. Green Card), or be eligible for a U.S. J-1 visa (or equivalent).
- Our programs participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and does not offer pre-match positions.
- All candidates applying for residency or fellowship positions must be registered with NRMP.
- Our programs follow NRMP's couples match policy.
- Passing score on USMLE Step 2 CK or COMLEX-USA Level 2-CE must be on the initial residency application to be considered.
- Passing score on USMLE Step 3 or COMLEX-USA Level 3 must be on the initial fellowship application to be considered.
- Medical School Transcript is required.
- Resident applications must include medical school performance evaluation from the Dean of your medical school.
- Fellowship applications must include residency performance evaluation from the Program Director of your internal medicine residency program.
- Three letters of reference from faculty members or preceptors aware of your clinical skills, preferably Internal Medicine physicians
- Personal statement outlining your interest in a career in internal medicine or specialty.
- If ANY prior ACGME training, documentation of good standing must be provided.
- Fellowship applications must include proof of completion from ACGME Accredited Internal Medicine
Residency.
Additional Criteria for Graduates of U.S. Allopathic and Osteopathic Medical Schools:
- Residency applicants must have graduated within the past two years from a medical school that is recognized and approved by the Tennessee State Board of Medical Examiners. Graduation date may be extended for candidates who are actively pursuing an additional advanced degree or active-duty military service.
Additional Criteria for Graduates of International Medical Schools (including Caribbean
Medical Schools):
- Residency applicants must have 1) graduated within the past two years from a medical school that is recognized and approved by the Tennessee State Board of Medical Examiners, 2) actively pursuing an advanced degree, or 3) actively engaged in clinical practice outside of the U.S.
- Total time to graduate from medical school not more than 7 years concurrently.
- Those pursuing an advanced degree or currently engaged in active clinical practice outside of the U.S. must not be more than 5 years post-graduation from medical school.
- ECFMG Certification completed.
- Candidates requiring U.S. J-1 visa (or equivalent) sponsorship must provide specific information in their application.
ETSU QCOM Internal Medicine Residency Program will begin releasing interview invitations no later than Mid-October. Applicants
receiving an interview offer will have been contacted by November 15; however, there
may be a rare occasion when, due to cancellation, an applicant may be contacted later
in the season.
All ETSU QCOM Fellowship Programs will begin offering interview invitations on or about August 1. All interviews
will be offered no later than September 15; however, there may be a rare occasion
when, due to cancellation, an applicant may be contacted later in the season.
Due to a high volume of applications, we are unlikely to extend interview offers to applicants who do not signal our program.
