The ETSU Health, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the alimentary tract, pancreas and liver. The division has a wide range of attendings with special interests in swallowing disorders, severe liver disease, gastrointestinal bleeding, atypical chest pain, and Hepatitis C.
Special expertise in endoscopic procedures include all aspects of therapeutic endoscopy including cholangioscopy, argon plasma coagulation for control of gastrointestinal bleeding and stenting for benign and malignant biliary and alimentary tract disease. Longitudinal outpatient care is provided for inflammatory bowel disease, chronic hepatitis, irritable bowel syndrome and swallowing disorders. Major research interests include intestinal transport mechanisms and bile acid modulation of bile duct secretion and growth.
Teaching, research, and clinical activities in gastroenterology and hepatology at Johnson City Medical Center (JCMC) and at the Mountain Home VA Medical Center are coordinated through the Division of Gastroenterology at East Tennessee State University (ETSU). These affiliations provide the GI Fellow with exposure not only to a large and diverse population, but also to a faculty renowned in most areas of gastrointestinal and liver diseases.
