The Division of Research in the Department of Internal Medicine has multiple NIH-, VA-, and DoD-funded principal investigators with active basic and translational research projects, focusing on viral (HIV, HCV, HBV, and EBV) and bacterial (sepsis) immunology, antiviral (HIV and HBV) gene therapy, and lymphoma, breast cancer, and liver cancer research. Our faculty members and research staff are working diligently and collaboratively to provide an excellent research environment to support our ability to obtain more extramural funding, publish high-impact scientific papers, enhance the career development of the junior faculty, train the next generation of graduate students, postdocs, and young investigators, and to develop a robust research program to promote the health care of the people in the State of Tennessee and beyond – consistent with the mission and vision of the Department of Internal Medicine, Quillen College of Medicine, and ETSU – for advancing the research, educational and healthcare needs of the people in our region.
