General Information | Selectives | Electives
The senior year is one of the more exciting times in a student's medical education. It is a time during which medical students can explore their interest in medicine more specifically and gain more proficiency and confidence than in their junior year skills.
General senior year requirements:
--10 weeks of senior selectives:
-
- Intensive Care - 2 Weeks
- Internal Medicine Inpatient Sub-Internship - 4 Weeks
- Ambulatory care - 4 Weeks
--28 weeks of senior electives
--4 weeks of Keystone Course
Internal Medicine Selectives:
Internal Medicine department offers selectives in each of the above mentioned groups:
-
- Medical Intensive care (BRMC, JCMC, or HVMC)
- Internal Medicine Sub-internship (HVMC and VAMC)
- Ambulatory experience in Johnson City clinic
- During selective months, senior medical students will work as acting interns. Students have the opportunity for increased clinical responsibility and are given time to expand basic skills, strengthen areas of weakness, learn basic information in areas where there may not be future opportunity for such study, and to develop career goals.
- During rounds applicable topics will be discussed with the management of common medical problems stressed. This will ensure that the student receives a high quality educational experience in Internal Medicine whether in-patient, intensive or ambulatory care setting. Students will take call during these selectives at the discretion of the attending.
- Further detailed description of each of these rotations and their goals and objectives are available in the QCOM Sr. Selective & Elective course catalog
Evaluation
Students performance will be observed and informally evaluated at all times by the
attending physicians of clinical rotations. Standardized evaluation forms will be
used at the end of rotations.
Absences
Due to the short length of each Senior Internal Medicine Selective/electives, 100%
