Opportunities for Enlisted Service
The Army also offers unsurpassed opportunities to those who wish to serve as Enlisted Soldiers may select from among an extensive list of career opportunities. After enlistment, each new Soldier attends nine weeks of Basic Combat Training (BCT). There they learn the essential elements of military life and develop the strength of body and mind that is the hallmark of the American Soldier. For most, the next stop is Advanced Individual Training (AIT).
In AIT, they master, by the use of hands-on training and field instruction, the essential elements of the specific Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) in which they will serve. Upon arrival at their first unit of assignment, they work together with the Officers and Noncommissioned Officers to perform the tasks necessary to accomplish the mission assigned to the organization.
To become an Enlisted Soldier in the U.S. Army, you must:
- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien
- Be 17-35 years old
- Be healthy and in good physical condition
- Be in good moral standing
- Have a High School Diploma or equivalent
