U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Samuel Kincheloe LTC (R) Kincheloe graduated
from East Tennessee State College in June
1959 and received a commission as a Second Lieutenant. After attending the Officer
Basic Course, he was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division. Upon completion of the
Special Forces Officers Course, he was assigned to the 1st Special Forces Group in
Okinawa where intensive training in counterinsurgency techniques continued in preparation
for deployment to Vietnam.
He deployed to Vietnam as an adjutant of an Operational B Detachment where he supported
Civilian Irregular Defense Forces. Upon return to the U.S., he successfully completed
the Infantry Officer Career Course and was assigned as an Infantry Officer Candidate
School Company Commander.
In June 1967, MAJ Kincheloe completed a CIA programed training course at the Foreign
Service Institute and was conferred a civilian status as a Foreign Service Officer
and assigned as the Senior Provincial Officer for Revolutionary Development in Binh
Dinh Province, Vietnam.
In May 1970, MAJ Kincheloe returned to Vietnam and was assigned to the 101st Airborne
Division and served as a battalion executive officer, battalion operations officer
and subsequently as an Assistant Chief of Staff, G4. Major Kincheloe was assigned
as an Inspector General in the Office of the IG, Headquarters Europe and 7th Army.
In September 1979, LTC Kincheloe was assigned as the Unconventional Warfare Officer
with the US Army Western Command at Fort Shafter, HI. He reestablished and expanded
joint/combined Unconventional Warfare exercises with the Philippines, Australia and
New Zealand.
LTC Kincheloe's final assignment was as Executive Officer and Deputy Commander of
the IIth Special Forces Group where he culminated more than 28 years active commission
service plus 4 years as an enlisted reservist. His awards and decorations include
the Combat Infantryman Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Special Forces Tab, Legion
of Merit, 5 awards of the
Bronze Star Medal, the Air Medal, 4 awards of the Meritorious Service Medal and the
Army Commendation Medal.
