Richard Measner

Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Richard Measner grew up on a dairy farm in Wisconsin and began his military career at the United States Military Academy in 1966.  Upon graduation as a Field Artillery officer in 1970, his 22-year military career encompassed assignments throughout the United States, Germany, and Turkey.  He is Ranger qualified and served two tours with the 82nd Airborne Division, earning his Master Parachutist badge. 

He commanded four different units, including an 8-inch artillery battery in the 3rd Infantry Division, and two different nuclear weapons sites - in Germany and Turkey.  His final assignment was as Professor of Military Science at East Tennessee State University (ETSU), where he commissioned 64 new Army lieutenants during his tenure. 

LTC(Ret) Measner has received numerous military decorations, including four awards of the Meritorious Service Medal.  Since retiring from the Army in 1992, he has been a consistently active supporter of the ETSU Army ROTC program, to include being the guest speaker at several commissioning ceremonies.

His second career as a Quality Engineer encompassed 12 years in the aero-space industry, where he worked with Howmet Corporation manufacturing blades and vanes for jet aircraft engines in both the civilian and military sectors.  His work included participation in the development of a ‘new concept’ engine for the Joint Strike Fighter.  He retired from Howmet in 2008. 

He married Malinda Johnson Measner in 2006; together they share a combined family of four children, with three of those children serving in the Army, to include numerous combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.
