Syllabus for AP Human Geography

TECHNOLOGY I - SYLLABUS

2019 - 2020

INSTRUCTOR:  Joshua Petty                                                                    COURSE - 1 Credit

 

PURPOSE OF CLASS: This course is divided into four parts. The first part is a nine-week concepts unit.

This unit will teach the usage of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, proper E-mail and Internet usage.

The other three parts of the course will provide entry level foundations in 3D Printing (Computer Aided Design), Computer Graphics (Adobe Photoshop CS3), and Computer programming using the language LiveCode.

The programming part of the course will help students develop problem solving skills they can use in many programming areas. The computer graphics and 3d printing parts of the course will be blended together allowing the students to create ideas in photoshop, then create printable designs in the computer aided design software. 

These three parts of the course are designed to provide the students with a chance to explore possible technology fields in which they might want to pursue in college.

 

EXPECTATIONS:  The expectations of the class include:

1. Students to complete all homework.

2. Students to complete all lab projects.

3. Students to have good attendance and make up any missed work due to excused absences.

4. Students to participate in class discussions.

5. Students should arrive to class prepared to work (this includes having a jump drive)

 

GRADING STYLE:  Grades are based on the following:

Your grade for this class will be based on your class participation / attendance,

lecture test scores, lab test scores, and lab project scores.

       Lecture / Lab Test and Quiz Scores     ============ points range from 20 to 100

       Lab Project Scores                   =================  points range from 10 to 25

       Class Participation / jump-drive   ================  points range from 5 to 25

Course Description:

 

As described on the Tennessee Department of Education Website, “Personal Finance is a

foundational course designed to inform students how individual choices directly influence

occupational goals, future earning potential, and long term financial well-being.  The

standards in this course cover decision-making skills related to goal setting, earning potential, budgeting, saving, borrowing, managing risk, and investing.”

 Materials:

 *  Three-ring notebook with assigned tabs

*  Pens and pencils

*  College-ruled notebook paper

*  Textbook, classroom handouts and/or notes, and any other supplementary materials

 Grading Policy:

 Students will access individual grades through the program Power School.  Grading will be done on a total point system; point values are based on the importance and complexity of each assignment.  For example, tests will be worth 100 points, and quizzes, projects, and other assignments may vary.

 If a student is absent or needs to check on assignments, it is his or her responsibility to make up missing work.  If there are questions about an assignment or additional materials that the student needs, arrangements need to be made for a time to come after school.  Instructional time will not be used to do this.

Electronic Devices: 

 Electronic devices will occasionally be used for class assignments, projects, and activities.  These are allowed to be used in class only when the teacher has given permission to do so.  Students using an electronic device without permission are subject to the consequences outlined in the student handbook.

 Classroom Expectations:

 *  Be on time to class and seated when the bell rings.

*  Be prepared for class.  You will not be allowed to return to your locker once class begins.

*  You are responsible for and expected to give your very best work.  In order to be successful      in this class, you will be expected to complete all homework and class assignments.

*  Be fully present in class.  Listen actively and engage in the learning process.

*  Respect the dignity and worth of every person in the classroom.  This includes your peers, your teacher, and the perspectives of those individuals studied in class.
