RESEARCH/CREATIVE ACTIVITIES
Collaborated with Dr. Jack Rhoton of the Center of Excellence in Mathematics Science Education in a year long effort to align state and national math and science standards, integrate math and science curriculum, develop and identify available resources, and strengthen my own teaching in those areas, 2006-2007.
Ongoing work with Dr. Lester Laminack and the US elementary team to strengthen our technical writing program in alliance with our new focus as a Math/Science signature school.
Action Research Project 2006-2007: I analyzed student spelling skills and developed a program to provide targeted teaching of dependable spelling patterns. I was able to broaden my project and blend it with my preference to individualize spelling instruction for first graders. The result is a balanced approach to spelling instruction that systematically targets common patterns and still meets the developmental needs of individual children.
