In Memoriam

HalieAnn Rex
HalieAnn Rex, age 26, passed away Friday, October 17, 2024. HalieAnn was involved in a motor vehicle accident on Saturday, October 12, 2024, when the bike she was riding was struck by a car.
HalieAnn served as the Graduate Assistant of Outdoor Adventure at ETSU Campus Recreation. HalieAnn worked with the Roan Scholars trip program for the Class of 2028, who lovingly called her “trail mom” and had begun work to establish a trail crew to upkeep and improve the University Trails. She believed strongly in bettering herself and others each day and showed that passion in her work with the students of ETSU.
From her family: HalieAnn was a bright, adventurous spirit, and she loved life. After completing her undergraduate degree at UTC, HalieAnn worked with the Southwest Conservation Corps, became certified as an English as a second language instructor, and accepted a position in Villafranca Tirrena, Sicily. She spent the past summer before joining us at ETSU, working for the Appalachian Mountain Club, developing trails in the northern Appalachian region.
HalieAnn woke up every day and asked herself, “Who am I? Why do I exist? What did I learn today?”. She did not take life for granted and refused to be complacent with her days on Earth. She lived true to herself. She lived deliberately. Her work world was to love the world.
She was an organ donor, and through her passing, she was able to save four lives.
