Study Abroad Day Scholarship Scavenger Hunt

The 2025 scavenger hunt has ended. We hope to have another scavenger hunt in 2026. Please check this page in January 2026 for more information.

Planning to study abroad but need a little extra cash to make it happen? Complete our scavenger hunt to be entered to win one of five $300 study abroad scholarships!

Clues

If you want to travel internationally, you'll need to have a certain document. Lucky for you, you can get that document here on campus! Find this office and you'll find your clue!
Money can be a deterrent for some people studying abroad. But that doesn't have to be the case! This office is dedicated to making sure you get the financial aid and scholarships you need to make studying abroad possible. (Open 8am - 4:30pm)
Hungry? You might want to head to this location where you can eat buffet style with tastes from all over the globe! But don't worry - you don't need to use a meal to find our clue. (Open 7am - 10pm)
Speaking of globes, there's a globe located on campus in between the Carillon bell tower and the building where you found clue #2. Find this globe and you'll find this clue!
We LOVE studying abroad and hope you do too! You can find the final clue at this lovely mural near the parking garage!

Dates: The scavenger hunt will begin on Monday, February 24, 2025 at 10:00am and will end on Friday, February 28, 2025 at 4:00pm.

Prizes
- Five $300 Study Abroad Scholarships
- Prizes will be drawn randomly on March 3, 2025
- You must complete the scavenger hunt by finding all 5 locations to be entered to win
How to win
- Use the clues to find all 5 locations around ETSU's main campus
- There will be a QR code at each location
- Scan the QR code, enter your name & email, and upload a selfie
- You must complete the scavenger hunt by finding all 5 locations to be entered to win
- Please note: some locations may only be available 8:00am - 4:30pm
- The scavenger hunt will end on February 28 at 4:00pm. Entries submitted after this time will not be considered
- All winners will be contacted via email on March 3 with instructions for claiming their scholarship
Eligibility
- You are participating in an ETSU-approved Spring Break 2025, Summer 2025, or Fall 2025 or
- You are planning to participate in an ETSU-approved Spring 2026 study abroad program
- All program types are eligible, including short-term programs (ETSU faculty-led or direct enrollment) and long-term programs (semester exchange or direct enrollment)
- Your study abroad application must be marked as Approved or Conditionally Approved in the Bucs Abroad portal before your scholarship will be disbursed
- Only one scholarship will be awarded per student
- Students who do not participate in a study abroad program during one of the above terms will not be awarded a scholarship but will have the option to receive an ETSU Education Abroad swag bag instead
Missing clues

If you can't find a clue at one of the scavenger hunt locations, please take a selfie at the location and email studyabroad@etsu.edu. We will provide you with a direct link to upload your selfie. Please note that all selfies must be submitted to the appropriate forms in order to be eligible for the scholarship. Selfies that are emailed to studyabroad@etsu.edu will not count toward the prize drawing.

Study Abroad Photo Contest (2023 contest closed)

Share your favorite study abroad memory and photo and win up to $250!

Please read the following rules and instructions before submitting. Email studyabroad@etsu.edu with additional questions.

Categories & Prizes
Group Entry: For ETSU faculty-led programs. Prize funds will be sent directly to the appropriate department. Prize: $500

Individual Entry: For any individual student who participated in an ETSU-approved study abroad program. Students who participated in an ETSU faculty-led program can also enter a photo for the individual category.
- First place: $250
- Second place: $100
- Third place: $50
How to enter
1. Post 1 photo and caption to Instagram and tag @etsustudyabroad before August 28, 2023.
2. Include a caption with the following information: Name, program location, your favorite part of studying abroad, and entry category (group or individual)
3. Photos can also be emailed to studyabroad@etsu.edu to enter.
How does voting work?

The voting period will be open from August 28 - September 28, 2023.

All the photos will be posted individually on the @etsustudyabroad Instagram account for official voting on August 28.

Votes will be determined by number of likes the photo receives on ETSU Study Abroad social media by September 28.
How many times can I enter?

Individual category: only one entry per student

Group category: only one entry per ETSU faculty-led program
How will the photos be used?
- Please make sure the photo taker and all people in the photo are okay with it being posted and used for marketing purposes.
- Everyone in the photo should be appropriately clothed and there should not be any illegal or inappropriate activities or substances depicted.
- By entering the photo contest, you give the Education Abroad Office permission to use your photo for marketing purposes, including but not limited to, social media, the Education Abroad website, interest sessions, and printed materials. We want to share your experiences to help inspire other students to study abroad!
