Student Work Programs
Student service positions allow students to earn part of their educational expenses by working part-time under the Federal Work Study Program (FWS) or the Regular Student Work Program (RSWP).

How much can be earned in a student work position?
- The exact earning potential depends upon the award maximum and hours actually worked.
- The starting hourly pay rate for FWS is $10.
- The starting hourly pay rate for RSWP is $8.25.
How are students paid for student work?
- Earnings for student work positions DO NOT go directly toward tuition/fees.
- Student workers are paid twice per month via direct deposit based on the hours they work.
How do I qualify for FWS?
- Students must complete the FAFSA and be awarded FWS by ETSU in order to be eligible for an FWS position.
- FWS awards are given on “first-come, first-served” basis.
- Due to funding restrictions, an FWS award does not guarantee a position.
- Students must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours to qualify for any work study positions.
How do I apply for FWS?
- Accept your FWS award offer via Goldlink.

- Allow 24-48 hours for the Student Employment website to update.
- On top of having accepted your FWS award, you must also be enrolled in at least 6 hours before the system will create an account for you.
- Search and apply for available FWS positions on the Student Employment Website. To do so:
- Follow the above link to the Student Employment website.
- Select FWS/RSWP Applicants & Employees.
- Select Find a Job.
- Search using the FWS Quick Search options OR Advanced Search.
- Read and agree to the disclaimer.
- Review posting.
- Select the box for each position you wish to apply for and select “Apply for selected jobs.”
- Allow the hiring department time to review applications and set up interviews.
How do I qualify for RSWP?
- Students who wish to be evaluated for RSWP should send an email containing their request, name, and E-number to finaid@etsu.edu.
- Students must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours to qualify for any student work positions.
How do I apply for RSWP?
- Allow 24-48 hours for the Student Employment website to update once you receive your
RSWP evaluation results email.
- On top of having been evaluated for RSWP, you must also be enrolled in at least 6 hours before the system will create an account for you.
- Search and apply for available RSWP positions on the Student Employment Website. To do so:

When can I begin working my student work position?
- Students cannot work any hours until the department in which they will be employed has received approval from the Office of Financial Aid.
- A student worker can only work through one work program at a time, and can only work for one department at a time.
