2013 Bachelor of Science in Public Health - Health Administration

After graduating ETSU I was offered a job at Baxter Healthcare located in Marion, NC where I was the CAPA Associate (corrective action/preventative action). I wore many hats at Baxter, where I dealt with; process improvement project, ways to increase production, decrease down time, trained new and current employees on new techniques, and also did analytical writing for Baxter which was reviewed by the Food and Drug Administration.

Although I enjoyed my job at Baxter it was not what I wanted to do in life. I wanted to work in local healthcare (Western North Carolina) and help to improve the overall health of the local communities where I grew up. I was lucky enough to be selected for a position with Mountain Area Health Education (based out of Asheville, NC) as the Regional Administrative Manager over the Mitchell/Yancey Rural Teaching Hub. In my new role, I am working with local healthcare providers to improve the overall health of the communities, increase the pipeline of physician’s and healthcare providers who practice in rural areas, and also help with better connecting physicians/providers who may be interested in practicing in this area with community projects and activities throughout Mitchell/Yancey.

My job, along with many others, is all a part of a Rural Health Initiative that is being funded by an $8 million North Carolina budget appropriation, championed by Senator Tom Apodaca. I feel that my education from East Tennessee State University's College of Public Health has helped me reach my goals and has equipped me with the knowledge I need to succeed in my current position. GO BUCS!
