Question: How did your education prepare you for the next step?
My experiences as a Graduate Assistant at the Center for Rural Health and Research were very impactful in preparing me to take my career to the next level. All the staff at the Center played an active role in supporting both my personal and professional development. Additionally, the support I received from the Biostatistics and Epidemiology faculty have enabled me to take a leadership role in data management and analysis within my organization.
Question: What is something you wish you had known when you were a student?
One of the things I was most grateful for was the ability to complete my graduate field experience over the course of two semesters in my final year of graduate school. This allowed me to develop a stronger relationship with the host site, gave me the opportunity to deliver a more well- rounded product, and reduced the overall burden of work. I think it’s important for other students to know this is an option they can take advantage of!
Question: Anything else you'd like to say?
I am currently participating in the Appalachian Leadership Institute through the Appalachian Regional Commission. It was great to hear Dr. Wykoff speak about the intersection of public health and economic well-being across Appalachia. This opportunity has supported my ability to partner with folks across sectors throughout the Appalachian region. I’m grateful for all my experiences at the College of Public Health and highly recommend attending for any current or future public health professional.
