Question: How did your education prepare you for the real world?
My education from ETSU's College of Public Health program is what prepared me for my career today. The professors in my program payed great attention to detail and made sure we learned the material. I was in the program during the start of the pandemic and all of my professors moved our classes to online smoothly so that we could stay at home and be safe from spreading COVID. It was the material and how the material was taught that allowed me to come out of school feeling prepared to take on a leadership roll at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. My education taught me several things but one key thing that really stood out to me is that you can't manage all of your employees the same way. This piece of advice I use daily in my job duties.
Question: What is one thing you wish you had known when you were a student?
Something that I wish I would have known as a student is don't be afraid to ask questions. What you learn in the classroom is what you will do on the job. It is very important to make sure you are retaining and understanding the material in class so you can be the best at your future career. Also, enjoy every minuet of college. Take it all in because looking back it was some of the best days of my life.
Any other thoughts?
I could not recommend ETSU's College of Public Health or the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center enough. If you are looking for top of the line education with professors that care and are willing to work with you, ETSU is the perfect choice.
