The Department of Chemistry has approximately 100 undergraduate Chemistry majors and thirty graduate students in our program. Many of our graduates continue on in Pharmacy and Medical School programs, or in major PhD gaining programs in chemistry.
If you are undecided on a major and are looking for an intellectually exciting profession, Chemistry can be a rewarding career. In 2007, the average starting salary for bachelor's
graduates in chemistry was $37,500 for Master's, $50,000 and PhD $70,000. (Chemical
and Engineering News, June 2, 2008). Chemists are employed in a variety of areas such
as academia, industry research laboratories, government labs (homeland security, forensics,
energy development), and the health professions.
We are located in the midst of the beautiful Appalachian Mountains in Upper East Tennessee, and within a day's drive of most of the eastern coast of the United States.
