The Department of Chemistry offers the Master of Science in Chemistry, with course offerings and research opportunities in all four major divisions in chemistry: analytical, inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry.
Graduate Teaching Assistantships and Tuition Scholarships are available for qualified students.
The program has both Thesis and the Non-Thesis Tracks. See the current graduate catalog for complete details.
In the Thesis Track (30–36 credit hours), students take a combination of core courses (9 credits, 3 courses out of 9 available), additional required courses (12–18 credits) and electives (6–9 credits). Students on the Thesis Track are required to conduct laboratory or theoretical research, write a thesis, present the thesis at a public seminar, defend it at an oral examination, and have it accepted for publication on ETSU's electronic thesis and dissertation system.
In the Non-Thesis Track (30 credit hours), students take 18 credits in core courses (6 courses out of 9 available) plus 12 credits in electives selected from graduate offerings in Chemistry and allied fields including Biology, Biomedical Science, Health Science, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science. For a complete list of electives, please see the current graduate catalog. Students on the Non-Thesis Track must pass a comprehensive examination at the end of their studies.
Contact the Graduate Coordinator for further information on the program, scholarships, and teaching assistantships.
