The agent for service of process for ETSU is the Attorney General and Report for the State of Tennesee. The University is not authorized to accept service of process; if someone attempts to serve you, in your capacity as an employee of ETSU, please review the Service of Process webpage and contact the Office of University Counsel immediately.
- Subpoenas ‐ Subpoenas should be immediately hand delivered to the Office of University Counsel, with the date received by the individual or department indicated on the document.
- Court Orders/Summonses ‐ University employees receiving a court order, summons or notification that a lawsuit has been filed against them (for actions taken in the course and within the scope of their job) or the University must immediately hand deliver the original court order, summons or notification to the Office of University Counsel with the date received by the individual or department indicated on the document. Please hand deliver the documents.

Written Communications ‐ The recipient of emails, letters, correspondence, or other communications from lawyers, court officials or the general public should be forwarded immediately to the Office of University Counsel for response. Any and all written communications requesting employment information or records relating to a current or former employee should be directed to the Human Resources Department.
