Instrumentation
The Molecular Biology Core Facility (MBCF) provides access to shared instrumentation supporting a variety of molecular biology research applications.
If you are unsure which instrument is appropriate for your project, contact the MBCF for assistance.
PCR and qPCR
Bio-Rad CFX96 Real-Time PCR System
The CFX96 is a real time-PCR system used for quantitative analysis of nucleic acids.
-
Applications include:
- Quantitative PCR (qPCR)
- Gene expression analysis
- DNA amplification and quantification
Eppendorf Mastercycler Gradient
A thermal cycler for conventional PCR and related mosecular biology applications.
Nucleic Acid Quantification and Quality Assessment
Nanodrop One Spectrophotometer
Used for rapid measurement of nucleic acid and protein concentration and assessment of sample purity.
Qubit Fluorometer
Provides fluorescence-based quantification of nucleic acids and other biomolecules. It is often used for final quantification of next-generation sequencing samples because fluorescence-based measurements are less affected by the presence of other biomolecules or chemical contaminants.
Agilent Bioanalyzer
Used to assess nucleic acid quantity and quality, including evaluation of RNA and DNA samples.
Agilent TapeStation
Provides automated electrophoretic analysis of nucleic acids and other samples.
Imaging
G Imaging System
Used for imaging and documentation of gels, blots and other molecular biology samples.
Protein Analysis
ProteinSimple Abby
An automated platform for protein analysis using capillary-based Western blotting and related applications.
Bio-Plex MAGPIX
A multiplex analysis platform capable of measuring multiple biological targets from a single sample.
Additional Instrumentation
The MBCF maintains additional instrumentation and equipment to support molecular biology research.
If you have a particular research application in mind and do not see it listed here, contact the MBCF. We can discuss whether the facility has an apporpriate instrument or whether another approach may be available.
Instrument Training
Training requirements vary by instrument. Researchers should contact the MBCF before using shared instrumentation independently.
Only users trained by MBCF personnel may access available instrumentation.
