Dr. Leslie MacAvoy earned her Ph.D. at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. She has published extensively on the works of two early twentieth-century philosophers, in particular, Martin Heidegger and Emmanuel Levinas. At ETSU, she regularly teaches courses on Continental Philosophy, Existentialism and Feminist theories, but over the years has also taught courses on philosophy of law, political philosophy, philosophy of technology as well as philosophy in literature. From 2010 until 2022, Dr. MacAvoy served as Chair of the Department. She is also a talented chef and also enjoys cycling, gardening, and travel.
