Super HIPs
If you search for "high-impact practices" in the teaching literature, these are what likely shows up. The research is clear that they are strongly impactful for learning.
While we certainly encourage adoption of these practices, we recognize they can be an intensive step. If you are not ready for one of these super-HIPs, adopt other general HIPs practices and perhaps plan a gradual move toward one of these, if you are interested.

Community-Engaged Learning
Of all the super HIPs we endorse, we certainly hold this one up the highest!
With CEL, a course project is developed that benefits a community partnering agency as well as your students. Tying the project to your course content is crucial.
Embedding more Community-Engaged Learning (CEL) in our courses is a goal of our Quality Enhancement Plan. As such, we have many supports in place to assist you with developing a CEL project for your class, including faculty development workshops and support groups, stipends for new projects, and online information.

Here, a few key points and assurances:
- CEL, as opposed to service-learning, means that the gains are reciprocal and shared between the partnering agency and your students.
- Student reflection on the experience as it relates to learning goals and content in your course is imperative.
- CEL activities do *not* have to take your students out of the classroom. For example, students can work on creating digital media for an agency, run data analyses needed by the community partner, or conduct advocacy activities on behalf of a partner's foundational principles.
