Internship & Experiential Learning Opportunities
University Career Services coordinates Experiential Learning Opportunities, which include internships, for several academic departments within East Tennessee State University. We invite you to engage with us as a mutually beneficial professional practice.
Experiential Learning Opportunities (ELOs) provide students hands-on learning and training outside the classroom and lab as they work toward a degree and transition to the labor market. There are several types of ELOs available. While these are not for academic credit and do not adhere to the traditional model of internships, they offer students invaluable off-campus hands-on learning. ELOs are a flexible, shorter-term way for students to explore career paths and make professional connections. Examples of ELOs include job shadowing, informational interviews, micro-internships, and site visits.
If you're interested in offering an ELO to students, explore the Employer Guide for ELOs (Non-Credit). Another option is providing internships in which students earn academic credit. For details, explore the Employer Guide for Internships (For Academic Credit).

What is said about ETSU Interns? “The intern received real-world training in evaluating cases for trial, reviewing evidence, and helping indigent clients find resources they need. They also assisted me in court, observing proceedings and taking notes. They have been an invaluable asset to our office and will be an incredible attorney someday. They left an excellent impression, and our office looks forward to working with more stellar ETSU students.” – Kelly Skeens, Asst. Attorney, Sullivan Co. Dept. of Public Defender
