Throughout the year this page will be dedicated to highlighting a SGA member who goes above and beyond to support the community.
Prior to the academic year beginning, our spotlight is on the SGA executives.
Meet your SGA President, Shelby Koerten

Shelby Koerten is a junior majoring in Communication Studies with a minor in Theatre. She has previously served as a Senator for the College of Arts and Sciences and as Chair of the Academic Affairs Committee for the Student Government Association, where she worked to elevate student concerns and enhance academic support with policies that empower student success. Shelby was also selected to serve as the SGA representative for ETSU's Community Engagement Committee, where she collaborates with university leaders to strengthen student involvement in the broader Johnson City community. Deeply involved in campus life, she is a Roan Scholar, the Vice President of Panhellenic Relations for Alpha Delta Pi, a Preview Leader, and a member of the Amalgam Dance Group. Driven by a heartfelt dedication to her student body, Shelby is committed to championing initiatives that expand campus resources and to being a responsive leader who turns student input into meaningful action. She is passionate about building a campus culture rooted in belonging and opportunity, where every student feels valued and supported.
Meet your SGA Executive Vice President, Taylor Laymon

Taylor is a senior majoring in Biomedical Engineering Technology with plans to pursue a Masters in Orthotics and Prosthetics after graduation. She has been involved in SGA for four years, spending her freshman year as a junior senator and the following years as a Senator and the Committee Chair of Academic Affairs. On campus, she is involved in many other ways-- as an Expedition Leader, a Student Foundation Ambassador, a Global Brigades member, and a member of the Global Citizen Scholars. Her main goals in SGA are centered around improving the experience for the individual, allowing every student to enjoy their time at ETSU.
Meet your SGA Vice President for Finance and Administration, Macy Miller

Macy is a junior majoring in Communication Studies with a minor in Human Rights and Global Citizenship. During her time in the Student Government Association, she has served on both the Student Affairs and BucFund committees. These roles allowed her to engage directly with student concerns and gain valuable insight into allocating financial support to projects that align with the university's values and student interests. Outside of Student Government, Macy is a Global Citizen Scholar, the Communications Director for the Tennessee Intercollegiate State Legislature, a Preview and Orientation Leader, and an active member of several other campus organizations. Macy is passionate about establishing a welcoming environment for students to directly share their ideas, and she strives to ensure their voices are not only heard but actively reflected in the decisions that shape campus life.
