Major Field Assessment
The Major Field Assessment (or Major Field Test/MFT) is designed to provide incentives
for institutions to improve the quality of undergraduate major field programs as evaluated
by the performance of graduates on approved examinations. Programs are considered
successful if they score within 97% of the comparison score. All undergraduate programs
report MFT data for one academic year (fall and spring) of each 5-year Quality Assurance
Funding cycle with the exception of licensure exams, which report annually. Approximately
20% of programs at the University are tested each year. See schedule below for the
years each program will test (This list is subject to change).
ETSU may consider individual student exemptions for extreme circumstances only, and
exemptions must be approved by the Provost. Exemptions will not be given for simple
inconvenience.
