Quillen Honors Scholars
Program Overview
The East Tennessee State University Honors College and the Quillen College of Medicine collaborate to offer a competitive, experiential-learning based medical school preparation program. This program offers cohort members a curriculum and enrichment experiences designed to enable a smooth transition from undergraduate studies to medical school. Five scholars in each cohort will secure a guaranteed spot in the Quillen College of Medicine immediately after graduation with the bachelor's degree. The ETSU Honors and Quillen Partnership Program is not an accelerated or fast-track program to medical school. The selected students will complete both the undergraduate and medical school programs of study sequentially and separately.
A total of fifteen entering first-year students are selected for the Quillen Honors Scholars program each year. Admission is highly competitive and based on a holistic review of application materials and, for selected applicants, an interview with the selection committee. The committee considers an applicant’s ACT score, GPA, extra- and co-curricular activities, desire to engage in experiential-learning programs and activities at ETSU, sense of purpose, and potential fit for Quillen College of Medicine. The program provides a $5,000 scholarship per year (for up to four years) that may be stacked on top of other scholarship awards. It also provides funding for a required study abroad program, summer enrichment opportunities, and research activities.
All scholars are provided the same funding, curriculum, and enrichment experiences, though not all will be granted guaranteed admission to the Quillen College of Medicine.
