Hello, I am Interim Chief Mark Tipton and I want to thank you for taking the time
to learn more about ETSU's police department and our mission.
We are a professional law enforcement agency dedicated to the protection of East Tennessee State University and its diverse community of faculty, staff, and students. Our mission is to provide overall safety and security to the University community and maintain an environment as favorable to academic excellence as possible.
Our Police Department consists of 20 sworn officers, 6 dispatchers, and 3 security guards. Our officers are commissioned state-certified through the Tennessee Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission (Tennessee POST).
Our responsibilities include:
- – Responding to in-progress crimes
– Investigating reported felonies, misdemeanor offenses, and cold cases
– Handling traffic accidents
– Providing safety escorts
– Managing after-hour access
– And many others that can be found here
