Institutional Scholarship Application
You must complete the 2025-26 FAFSA to be eligible for need-based scholarships. Please submit only ONE Institutional Scholarship application and this must be completed each year.
Priority Deadline is March 1st, 2025
The eligibility of all students is determined by information contained in the FAFSA needs analysis, the criteria of the donor(s), and federal regulations when appropriate. Unless noted, the scholarship recipients are chosen by the Financial Aid/Scholarship Committee. Scholarships are awarded to students in March preceding the academic year. The amount of the scholarship is determined by the funding available.
The Welsford P. and Ethel C. Artz Scholarship
Applicant must be a first-year medical student, documented financial need and be in good academic standing. Preference given to a Washington County, TN resident, otherwise a Tennessee resident. Renewable for four years provided the student maintains satisfactory academic progress.
Steven L. and Shirley H. Berk Scholarship
Applicant must be an entering medical student, documented financial need, be in good standing, have a GPA of 3.5 or better in all courses attempted prior to entering Quillen College of Medicine. Renewable for four years provided student maintains satisfactory academic progress.
Beiber Scholarship
Applicant must be an entering first year or a current student, on good academic standing, documented financial need, and overcome personal adversity in their life. Preference will be given to students with an interest in research after medical school.
Bridgforth Family International Healthcare Scholarship
Applicant must be a current medical student in good standing with a desire to deliver quality healthcare in underserved developing countries. Prior approval at all levels required for the proposed international experience at ETSU.
Guy Steven Bucy, MD Family Scholarship
Applicant must be a first-generation college student enrolled in the College of Medicine. Renewable if satisfactory academic progress is maintained.
Drs. David and Jenny Marion Byrd Scholarship
Applicant must be a third-or fourth-year medical student planning a career in Family Medicine. The student must have documented need.
Dr. Mary Castillo Memorial Scholarship
Applicant must have good academic standing, excellent moral character and show interest in Christian medical missions. Each applicant must submit a 500-700-word essay on their interest in Christian medical missions and how they intend to participate in short and/or long-term Christian medical mission projects. After completing the COM Institutional Scholarship Application, please forward the required essay including your name and ETSU Student ID Number to: COM Office of Financial Services; Stanton-Gerber Hall, Room C-221, Johnson City, TN 37614-1708.
Dr. L. C. Cox Scholarship
Applicant must be from either Sullivan County, TN or Scott County, VA. and have documented financial need.
D.P. Culp Scholarship
Preference given to a first-year medical student exhibiting an interest in Family Medicine. After that, a student intending to pursue a career in primary care shall be considered. Must have documented financial need and meet all academic criteria. Renewable providing all criteria is met.
Reuhland-Cummings Medical Scholarship
Preference will be given to a medical student from Cannon County or the Middle Tennessee region requiring financial assistance and/or given to an acute short-term financial need that is unexpected and not part of the annual awards process. This award will be at the discretion of the Director of Financial Aid at the College of Medicine to evaluate the circumstances of need.
Dr. David E. Daigneault Memorial Scholarship
Applicant must be a rising fourth year medical student who demonstrated during third year clinical clerkships their compassion, integrity, respect, and empathy for patients. Preference given to applicants with an interest in oncology and/or research.
Dr. Earnest A. Daigneault Scholarship
Applicant is nominated for this award by the Teaching Faculty of Pharmacology. Must be an outstanding student who has completed Pharmacology and established the highest performance in the course.
John Richard Diehl Jr. Medical Scholarship
Applicant must be a Tennessee resident, have documented financial need, and be in good academic standing. Renewable providing all criteria is maintained
Dr. Paul Dishner
Applicant must be a full-time medical student and must be in good academic standing established by the Quillen College of Medicine.
ETSU College of Medicine Scholarship
Applicant must be an entering Tennessee resident who is a first generation college student. The student must have documented financial need. Renewable provided satisfactory academic progress is made.
The Faith and Hope Scholarship Endowment
Applicant must be a current or entering student with documented financial need and be in good academic standing.
First Bank & Trust
Applicants must be in good academic standing as well as exhibit leadership and personal integrity. Preference will be given to students who wish to remain in the region.
Mayme Frazier
Applicant must be in good academic standing with documented financial need.
Walsh-Fudge Family Scholarship
Applicant must be a fourth year medical student in good academic standing, a Tennessee resident, have excellent moral character with proven leadership abilities and a documented financial need. Also must be planning to practice as a Family Medicine physician.
Morris and Lena Goldstein Scholarship
Applicant must be in good academic standing with documented financial need.
Charles and Mary Hamdy Scholarship
Applicant must be a first year medical student with high academic achievements and documented financial need for financial assistance.
Margaret and Aurthur Houghland Medical Scholarship
Applicant must be a third year medical student that shows promise and potential as a future physician.
F. Heisse Johnson Scholarship
Applicant must be a first-year medical student. Recommendations requested from the Dean of Medicine relating to special needs to be met in the Admission/Scholarship process. Highest ranked student(s) list, in priority order, determined by Admissions for the entering class. Documented financial need may be considered. Renewable if satisfactory academic progress is maintained.
Drs. Barbara and Stephen Kimbrough Scholarship
Applicant must be a third-or fourth-year student medical student. Preference shall be given to married couples both pursuing the M.D. degree and additional preference to students interested in ophthalmology and neurology. Must be in good academic standing and have documented financial need.
Andrew F. & Flora C. Modica Scholarship Endowment
Preference shall be given to students in good academic standing with documented financial
need.
Dr. Ann C. Mortell Scholarship
Applicant must have documented need and be in good academic standing.
Reva Noble
Applicant must have documented financial need and maintain satisfactory academic progress. Renewable if criteria is met.
Toni and William Parnes Memorial Scholarship
Applicant must have documented financial need and maintain satisfactory academic standing. Renewable provided all criteria is maintained.
Partners in Medicine Scholarship
Recommendations requested by the Dean of Medicine. Application must exhibit academic excellence and superior leadership qualities as determined by the Financial Aid/Scholarship Committee. Renewable providing all criteria is maintained.
Ruth C. Peeler Scholarship
Applicant must be a third or fourth year student planning on a career in practice or research in Obstetrics/ Gynecology, Oncology, Cardiology, or Internal Medicine. As well as have an interest in women's health issues and disparities in healthcare for minority women and maintain satisfactory academic progress.
Dr. Paul E. Perlman Scholarship
Applicant must be in good academic standing and documented financial need. Preference given if interested in planning a career in Internal Medicine.
Quillen Class of 1982
Applicant must be a current medical student in good academic standing or an entering first year medical student with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5, and documented financial need.
Quillen Class of 1984
Applicant must be a student at the College of Medicine in good standing with documented financial need.
Quillen Class of 1989
Applicant must be a full-time student in good academic standing and documented financial need.
Quillen Class of 1992
Applicant must be an enrolled medical student at Quillen College of Medicine and documented financial need.
Quillen Class of 2001 Scholarship Endowment in Memory of Mark Summers, M.D.
To be considered by the Financial Aid and Scholarship Committee for the Mark Summer's Scholarship, applicants must complete the nomination application or be nominated by a fellow classmate, member of the faculty, staff or administration. The student must be in their second year of medical school with a good academic standing. Preference will be given to medical students interested in or having completed military service and medical students from Dr. Summer's hometown of Appalachia, VA or any community in Southwest Virginia.
Quillen Class of 2021/ Wendell Burnette Scholarship
Applicants must be in good standing with preference given to medical students from Sevier County, TN. Renewable if good academic standing is maintained.
Quillen College of Medicine Merit Scholarship
Eligible recipients are medical students in their second, third or fourth year of medical school, who are in the top third of their class and have demonstrated a financial need.
Quillen College of Medicine Veterans Scholarship
Applicant must be a rising third or fourth year medical student veteran. Renewable if satisfactory academic progress is maintained.
Quillen Medicine Scholars
Preference shall be given to applicants who live in the First Congressional District of Tennessee (Carter, Claiborne, Cocke, Grainger, Greene, Hamblen, Hancock, Hawkins, Jefferson, Johnson, Knox, Sevier, Unicoi, and Washington). Renewable up to a maximum of four years.
Raymond Family Medical Scholarship
Applicant must be a first year medical student, Tennessee resident, in good academic standing and have documented financial need.
Richard G. Skalko Scholarship
Applicant must be in good academic standing and have documented financial need. Renewable providing all criteria is maintained.
Priester-Sloan Family Scholarship
Applicant must be a rising third or fourth year student with preference given to students with interest in Rural Primary Care in the Appalachian region. Renewable if satisfactory academic progress is maintained.
Dr. Paul and Nancy B. Stanton, Jr. Medical Scholarship
Preference shall be given to a third year student based on scholarship, humanism, and when all things are equal; as well as documented financial need.
Karen Pitts-Stubenvoll, M.D. Scholarship
Applicant must be an entering medical student from Tennessee, in good academic standing. Preference given to a student demonstrating strong leadership skills.
Edwin "Doug" Taylor Medicine Scholarship
Applicant must be an entering medical student with documented financial need. Preference given to first generation college graduates and/or military veterans.
Dr. Charles T. Underwood and Judge Shirley Baumgardner Underwood Memorial Medicine Scholarship
Applicant must be accepted for admission or a currently enrolled student. Must be a resident, in priority order of: Northeast Tennessee (Washington, Carter, Johnson, Unicoi, Sullivan, Hawkins or Greene counties); any other Tennessee county; Virginia or North Carolina; any other state. Must demonstrate financial need and meet all academic criteria.
Mary Jane Gibson-Valk, M.D. Scholarship
Applicant must a have a career plan to pursue Primary Care, be in good academic standing, as well as plan to practice in East Tennessee area.
Bertha B. Votaw Scholarship
Preference shall be given to first year medical student(s) who show strong potential for a successful career in medicine. Renewable if students maintain satisfactory academic process and must not fail any courses.
Wallace Scholarship
Applicant must be a resident from Hamblen County, TN and have documented financial need.
Dr. Albert S. Yates Memorial Scholarship
Applicant must meet all academic criteria as established by the College of Medicine and have documented need. Preference given to students who are residents of Kentucky, after that, Tennessee residents will be considered.
