Project ECHO(Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) is a lifelong learning and guided practice model that revolutionizes medical education and exponentially increases workforce capacity to provide best-practice specialty care and reduce health disparities. The heart of the ECHO model is its hub-and-spoke knowledge-sharing networks, led by expert teams who use multi-point videoconferencing to conduct virtual clinics with community providers. In this way, primary care doctors, nurses, and other clinicians learn to provide excellent specialty care to patients in their own communities.

Appalachia is one of several U.S. regions often identified as medically underserved, and its unmet health needs have been described for decades by numerous researchers. The ETSU Department of Family Medicine Mission statement states we have the goal "to improve health in rural southern Appalachia.”
Our AMFM Project ECHO aims to give rural primary care providers (RPCs) access to specialists and behavioral health experts they would otherwise not have access to while practicing in a rural, underserved area. Please join us to learn and discuss complex patient cases.

East Tennessee State University has been actively engaged on the opioid epidemic since 2012, when a highly interprofessional team was established to create the ETSU Prescription Drug Abuse Working Group. ETSU has continued to develop collaborative relationships to address Opioid Use Disorder, including the 50/50 partnership between ETSU Research Foundation and Ballad Health, the region’s largest health system to form the Overmountain Recovery Center, which provides treatment services for Opioid Use Disorder since 2016.
Affiliations continue to expand as ETSU Department of Family Medicine has teamed up with the TennCare MCOs to bring tele-education to Tennessee via Project ECHO focusing on providing learning around addiction/substance use disorders and the management of this complex set of diagnosis, including co-occurring diagnoses. We will provide you with one of the most enjoyable methods of learning evidence based treatment protocols and approaches to providing care to those in our community with Opioid Use Disorder. Our goal is to share the medical knowledge and competence needed to increase access to quality care for those with OUD.
