Graduate Assistantships
A limited number of graduate assistantships (GA) are available for fall and spring terms. Individuals who plan to attend graduate school full-time (9 hours per semester) are eligible for GA positions. GAs receive a tuition waiver, a monthly stipend, and are expected to work 20 hours per week; however, the student is responsible for student fees.
Only graduate students admitted to the Graduate School and accepted into a graduate degree program may hold an assistantship. To qualify, graduate students who have previously taken graduate level courses must have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average. Graduate assistants must maintain a minimum cumulative 3.0/4.0 grade point average (GPA) to remain eligible for assistantship support. International students are eligible for graduate assistantships as soon as they are unconditionally admitted as graduate students at East Tennessee State University. Graduate assistants may be appointed for no more than two calendar years in a master's program.
Tuition Scholarships
Tuition scholarships are available for first semester, full-time students (9 hours) in the fall and spring terms. Tuition scholars (TS) provide 8 hours of weekly service and receive a tuition waiver; however, the student is responsible for student fees.
Tuition scholarship contracts are renewable, but must be consecutive. If a tuition scholarship student accepts a GA and performs the duties of a GA, they cannot change back to a tuition scholarship.
To apply for a Graduate Assistantship (GA) or Tuition Scholarship (TS), you must first check the appropriate box on your graduate school application package. We strongly encourage you to contact the department in which you would want to work and express your interest in a GA or TS. You may then view vacancies by clicking on the Current List of Available GA & TS Positions.
