Musical Theatre Concentration
Interested in auditioning for the Musical Theatre Concentration?
Complete the following steps:
1. Apply to East Tennessee State University

- To be eligible for all scholarships, you must FIRST be accepted by the university at large.
- You MUST have your ETSU assigned ID number, known as your "E number" to move forward with the audition process.
2. Complete the Online Application Form for the ETSU Theatre Major with Musical Theatre Concentration

- You will receive a confirmation email when the application has been submitted. If you do not receive the confirmation email, try resubmitting the form.
3. Submit a video audition via email to musicaltheatreaudition@etsu.edu. Type your first and last name in the email subject line. The video audition must consist of the following three components:

- Sing one up-tempo musical theatre selection that is a maximum of four minutes in length.
- Sing one lyrical musical theatre selection that is a maximum of four minutes in length. This selection may be a classical art song or aria.
- Perform one monologue that is a maximum of 45 seconds.
*Keep in mind that the video submission cannot exceed 10 minutes.
There are TWO video submission deadlines:

- Early Submission deadline: November 1
- Regular Submission deadline: February 1
Students who meet the early submission deadline will receive an email notification indicating whether they are invited for an on campus audition by November 3. On campus audition dates for early submissions are November 20, January 22, and January 31, 2025. If invited to an on campus audition, the email will include a link to sign up for an audition date and time in the email. The on campus audition should be the same material as the video submission and will be timed (the audition cannot exceed 10 minutes).
Students who meet the regular submission deadline will receive an email notification indicating whether they are invited for an on campus audition by February 3. On campus audition dates for regular submissions are February 5 and February 19, 2026. If invited to an on campus audition, the email will include a link to sign up for an audition date and time in the email. The on campus audition should be the same material as the video submission and will be timed (the audition cannot exceed 10 minutes).

Musical Theatre Concentration Required Courses: 24 Credit Hours
Musical Theatre Concentration Advisor Approved Electives
- Three credits of any course with a THEA prefix (approved by the Theatre and Dance
department chair) not taken to fulfill other requirements.
Note: THEA 1030 does not count toward the Theatre major requirements.
Musical Theatre Advisor Approved Electives: Choose 3 Credit Hours
Dance Minor: 21 Credits
The dance minor is required for the Musical Theatre Concentration. It is recommended that students take DANC 2505, DANC 3505, and DANC 4505 as advisor approved electives in the minor.
