ABOUT US:
The Applied Social Research Laboratory (ASRL) is an academic research lab located at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN.
ASRL is directed by Dr. Kelly Foster, a professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology with over 20 years experience in survey research. ASRL staff and faculty affiliates have extensive experience in community based research, evaluation research, government and non-profit work, public opinion polling, and community health research.

The Applied Social Research Lab will begin hosting open consultation hours this Fall/Spring. These hours are open to current ETSU faculty, staff, and students.
Your first 30 min appointment is FREE and is on a 1 per project/topic basis. Any consultation beyond your first 30 min will be fee for service.

ASRL 2025 - 2026 Department Trainings/Seminars: Beginning this fall, ASRL will also offer one-time individualized trainings for ETSU departments and/or research teams. These trainings will be tailored to the requested topics and are taught by ASRL faculty and staff. These trainings would be ideal for groups wanting to enhance their skills regarding a specific area of research. Topics could include basic Qualtrics training, survey design, sampling methods, Qual/Quant analysis, survey BOts/Bogus Respondents, incentives, etc...
