The next deadline for Noyce scholarship applications will be March 1, 2024. Check
this web site early in Spring 2024 for more information.
For the Fall 2024/Spring 2025 year, we may be offering Noyce scholarships to undergraduates for their senior year under certain specific conditions:
1) Student must be entering their senior (last) year of their undergraduate career,
and must be planning to (and able to) graduate in May 2025 with the Secondary Education
minor and teacher certification, along with their bachelor's degree in either Chemistry,
Physics, Mathematics, or Biology. Students must have at least 90 credit hours and
be on track to graduate in May 2025.
2) Students must have an overall GPA of greater or equal to 3.0.
3) Students must be planning to start work as a full-time teacher immediately after graduation (i.e., in Fall 2025) in one of these four subject areas at a high needs school.
4) The student must be committed to teach for at least two full years at a high needs school after graduation. This is a requirement of the National Science Foundation. If a student does not fulfill this requirement, then they must pay the government back the full cost of the scholarship. This means it is important for you to be sure you are going to stick with teaching for at least two years.
5) To enforce the 2-years of teaching requirement, the scholarship is written as a Promissory Note, i.e., as a forgiveable loan. Once the two years of service are completed, then the loan is forgiven.
6) The student must pass the Praxis exam in their subject area before receiving the scholarship (i.e., before the beginning of the Fall 2025 semester). Math students are allowed to take the National Evaluation Series Secondary Mathematics exam instead. If you are interested in receiving a Noyce scholarship, if you haven't already I encourage you to take the exam as soon as possible.
The web site for the Noyce MAT program and the application forms are at:

Use the same application form as for the Noyce MAT scholarship.
Other relevant information is available at the above web site.
The deadline for applications for scholarships for Fall 2024/Spring 2025 is March
1, 2024.
The application form will ask you for the names and email addresses of two professors for reference. Make sure you have their email addresses available when you start the application process. The software will automatically send out a request for the letter of reference. That request will come from Dr. Scott Kirkby; warn your professors that the request will be arriving.
The Noyce scholarship will provide up to $5000/semester, $10,000/year, up to the cost of attendance for eligible undergraduate students in their senior year. If a student has other financial aid, the amount of the Noyce scholarship may be reduced below this amount. The financial aid office will determine the final amount of the scholarship.
If you are not graduating in May 2025, or if you will not complete the Secondary Education minor before graduating, or if you will not be certified as a teacher by May 2025, then you are not eligible for this scholarship for Fall 2024/Spring 2025. Students who are planning on going on to the Masters of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program immediately after graduation are NOT eligible for the Noyce Undergraduate Scholarship. This scholarship will not cover Accelerated Bachelor's to Masters courses.
