2023. From left: Marissa Hankins (Physics), Dakota Barnes (Math), Anthony Vaughn (Physics),
Daniel Waters (Physics), Ryan Carlock (Physics), Kevin Willis (Math), and James Daley
(Chemistry).
The next application deadline (for summer 2025) will be March 15, 2025. Over the summer of 2025, a number of paid summer internships will be available through
the Noyce program for undergraduate Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics majors.
This is a 5-week program, in which the intern will work at a local science museum/camp/educational
facility. Only Physics, Chemistry, and Math majors are eligible for the intern program. This program is aimed at students who have not taken any courses through the Education
College. Students who have taken an Education course are not eligible for the Noyce summer intern program.
The Noyce interns will lead classroom activities, make presentations, do demonstrations,
and assist the staff of their host organization in a variety of tasks. The intern
program will run for five weeks, from approximately June 1-July 17, approximately
40 hours per week. Participants will receive a stipend of $3000. For interns who
live too far from campus to commute, housing will be provided in the ETSU dorms free
of charge for the duration of the internship (courtesy of the College of Arts and
Sciences).

at ETSU).
Potential host organizations include the Hands On Discovery Center in Gray Tennessee, the Renaissance Camp on the ETSU campus, the Langston Centre in Downtown Johnson City, the Gray Fossil Site/Natural History Museum in Gray Tennessee, Science Hill High School Summer School, and the Upward Bound program on the ETSU campus. All ETSU students majoring in Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics are eligible, except for graduating seniors and students who have taken a course
through the Education College. This intern program is specifically targeting students
who have never taken a course in education. Students must have been enrolled at ETSU
during Fall 2024 to be eligible as an intern for summer 2025, and they must be planning
to enroll again during Fall 2025 as undergraduates.
Application forms for summer 2025 will be available at this web site in early 2025.
Note that the application form will ask for two letters of reference from faculty.
Before filling out the application form, ask your references if they are willing to
provide a reference for you. After you submit your application, your recommenders
will receive automatic requests for letters of reference from the application software.
This automatic request will come via email from Dr. Beverly Smith, so warn your recommenders
to expect this email. Since the members of the Noyce team will be reviewing the
applications, do not ask anyone on the Noyce team (Dr. Beverly Smith, Dr. Scott Kirkby,
Dr. Moin Uddin, or Dr. Jamie Price) for a letter of reference. Instead, ask other
faculty members.
The Noyce application form will also ask for an unofficial copy of your ETSU transcript,
in pdf format. To produce this document, go to Goldlink, and display your transcript
in your browser. Then hit the "print" button, and in the "destination" box, hit the
"pdf" option. Then save the file.
