When are the Watermark Faculty Success training sessions taking place?
Training materials are available for general overview of Watermark Faculty Success as well as specific processes: Annual Evaluations, Third Year Review, and Tenure and Promotion. Training sessions are available upon request. Email watermark@etsu.edu to request training for individuals or groups.
-
When should I enter my activities and accomplishments into Watermark Faculty Success?
You will be required to enter your activities and accomplishments each year prior to submitting your faculty activity report during your college's annual evaluation period.
-
Do I need to enter ALL of my activities into Watermark Faculty Success?
No. There is no penalty for entering all of your activities into the WFS system, but it is not required. Currently, faculty are expected to, at a minimum, enter their activities for each year for their annual evaluations.
-
How do I report my activities on Community Engagement?
WFS tracks community engagement in teaching, research, and service.
For teaching, add a new record in Teaching Innovation and Curriculum Development and select the Activity Type Community-Based Teaching.
For research, select Yes to the question Would this activity be considered Engaged Scholarship? if this applies to an activity in the following screens: Publications, Presentations, Contracts, Fellowships, Grants, and Sponsored Research, Exhibits, Performances, & Other Creative Activities, Intellectual Property, and Research Activity. The phrase Marked as Engaged Scholarship will appear under citations in Activity Reports.
For service, add a new record in Community Engagement and Outreach.
-
Where did the CV Imports tool go?
The CV imports tool was removed from Watermark Faculty Success in 2022.
-
WFS asks for a LOT of information on each screen. Do I need to complete every cell on a screen?
No. As WFS is used by universities around the country, it is designed to be exhaustive in the kind of information it can record. That does not mean that you need to enter information into all cells. If you are unsure about what information you do need to enter, refer to the Faculty Activity Report (FAR) template for your department/college.
The FAR template is available under "Reports". After clicking on the name of the FAR template for your college, click "Download this report's template." Only fields listed in this template are pertinent to your annual reports and evaluations.
-
Who can see my activities and accomplishments within Watermark Faculty Success?
The people who can see your activities include yourself, your Department / Program Chair (and perhaps individuals in other departmental administrative positions), the Dean of your College and other individuals with administrative positions within your College, and other upper-level administrators (e.g., Institutional Research, Institutional Effectiveness and Assessment).
-
I don't know where to record some of my activities and/or accomplishments in WFS. What should I do?
Please reach out to watermark@etsu.edu for assistance.
-
Some of my scholarly presentations were imported when I imported my publications. Can I move them to the "Presentations" screen?
Unfortunately, no. WFS does not allow you to move activities from one screen to another. As a result, you would have to delete those presentations from your "Publications" screen and add them (if recent) to your "Presentations" screen.
-
Can I import my publications from ResearchGate?
No. Unfortunately, at this time, ResearchGate does not allow you to create a BibTeX file of your publications.
-
Can I import my activities from Digital Commons?
No. We looked into this and the only activities that could be imported from Digital Commons to WFS were presentations. Based on the number of hours it would take Sherrod Library staff to do this, we decided against it.
-
If my publications are published online first and then later in print, which publication date should I list?
Either date is fine. It does not matter.
-
What is "Journal Quartile Equivalency" in Publications?
The research, scholarship, and creative activity component of ETSU's budget model evaluates publications using journal quartiles. You can learn more about journal quartiles in the Calculating Journal Quartiles guide. If your publication was not published in a journal, ask yourself: would this publication be considered equivalent to a Quartile 1 or Quartile 2 journal in your field? Quartile 1 refers to the top 25% of comparable journals in your field, and Quartile 2 refers to the top 50%. If you believe your non-journal publication is equivalent to Quartile 1 or 2, indicate the suggested quartile (1 or 2) and include a brief explanation. If your publication was published in a journal, or it is not equivalent to a Quartile 1 or 2 publication, write “N/A.”
