Testing Center Procedure and Protocol
Testing Requirements
All examinees must have a valid photo ID in order to test. We accept:
- ETSU Student ID
- Drivers liscense
- State ID
- Passport
Check In
- When an examinee arrives, office staff will ask them for their valid photo ID..
- The identification name and picture are verified by staff and the student is checked into our appointment system.
- The identification is then returned to the examinee and they are instructed to leave the ID, face-up, on their desk while they are testing.
- Examinee will hand the officer worker their powered off phone to be placed in a locked Yondr Bag.
- Exam materials and seat assignment are then given to the examinee.
- The examinee is then instructed of prohibited items: (e.g. hats, phones, watches, scarves, pens and mechanical pencils, and any other materials that are not instructor-permitted)
- The examinee is then directed to store all of their personal belongings in designated area.
- The examinee then finds their assigned seat, logs into the computer and d2l and launches the lockdown-browser enabled exam.
Check Out
- Examinee returns to front desk after completing exam and signing off of computer.
- Scratch paper and other center-provided materials are collected
- ID is again verified and Yondr bags are unlocked and examinnee's phone is returned
- Examinee is checked out of the system and they return to the lockers, retrieve their effects, and exit the testing center
Proctoring Procedure
- 1 - 2 proctors are required to be walking the testing floor at all times observing for behavior, for irregularities, for prohibited belongings, and for examinees in need of assistance
- Proctors walking the floor are also required to check the name on the student ID against the name on the lockdown-browser’s upper ribbon that displays the exam name, examinee name, and testing time allotted and remaining.
Irregularities
All major irregularities are documented on a CPR (center problem report) and scanned to the director. CPRs are then forwarded to the examinee’s instructor or relevant university administrator.

Prohibted Behavior
Minor:
- Watch, hat, mechanical pencil or pen on examinee’s person: Examinee directed to store materials and resume testing.
Major:
- Phone on examinee’s person and turned on
- Cheating materials: cheat sheet, electronic devices, hidden camera, modified clothing or writing implement, writing on the examinee’s person, and any behavior or material that enables academic dishonesty.
- Cheating materials, aside from phones and other electronics, are confiscated, photographed and included in the CPR
- Willful disruption of testing activates: belligerence, loud and abusive behavior toward testing staff and/or other examinees

Technical Irregulariies
- D2L, internet, or power outage
- Campus lockdown, evacuation, or other emergency
- Problem with student account/log-in

Exam/question Challenges
If an examinee wishes to challenge a score on an exam or a specific question on the exam, they will request to do so with a proctor on duty.
A CPR will be filled out with all relative details and sent to professor over exam for review.
Center Protocols
- We Do NOT provide calculators. Calculators can be checked out at the Sherrod Library Ask-Us desk.
- Permitted materials will be checked before you are seated. Any permitted notes will be collected at the end of the exam. Please make sure your name is on these notes so they can be returned by your instructor.
- Cell Phones and Smartwatches will be turned off and stored in a locking pouch that you take to your seat with you.
- Gum, food, and drinks are prohibited in the testing area.
- Children and pets are not allowed, except for service animals.
- No sunglasses, Hats, Hoods on Heads, Watches (of any kind), Large Jewelry, Scarves, or Pens/Mechanical Pencils are allowed in the testing area.
- UTS reserves the right to inspect any jewelry, eyeglasses, or any item that may have a recording device in it.
- All exams are by appointment only.
Testing Accommodations
Students should register with ETSU's Disability Services If you are not an ETSU student, please make arrangements with your instructor, testing company (ETS, Collegeboard, ACT, etc.)
NOTE: Our registration system does not compensate for extra time accommodations. If you
have double or time-and-a-half, please note our closing time and schedule with enough time to get checked in and complete
your exam.
