Conference Services

With its numerous meeting facilities, professional staff and beautiful campus, East Tennessee State University, in Johnson City, Tennessee provides an ideal atmosphere for all your camps and conference needs. The academic atmosphere that fits within your budget, safe environment and a staff that understands the particular needs of your event are just a few of the reasons you should consider coming to ETSU this summer.

The Office of Conference Services is a "one stop shop" ready to assist with on campus housing, food service, A/V equipment, and meeting space needs  for  faculty, staff, students and external clients alike! Whether your program will last one day or several weeks, an academic setting can be an ideal match for a productive summer event. Johnson City and East Tennessee State University are located in Northeast Tennessee, bordering Virginia and North Carolina. Our campus is easily accessible from Interstates 81, 26, and 40.

Located approximately 20 miles from the Tri-Cities Regional Airport (TRI), ETSU is just a short drive away from challenging ski slopes, rivers, lakes, the picturesque Appalachian Mountain hiking trails and panoramic views from the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway. Residence Hall Accommodations and Amenities

ETSU's campus is host to a variety of meetings year round, but summer is when our campus is most popular. From mid-May to early August, we open our residential halls to conference guests and offer convenient and affordable accommodations. Residence halls are equipped with common-area kitchenettes, coin-operated laundry facilities, vending machines, comfortable lobby areas, and an elevator. Cable and TV hookups and Ethernet computer connections are available in each room. Residence hall rooms are furnished with two single beds, air-conditioning, sinks, and large closets with drawers. Shower/bathroom facilities are located on each floor.

Residence Halls remain locked 24 hours per day for the safety and security of our guests. ETSU Housing Staff are available 24 hours a day to assist your group. Adequate, well-lit and free parking facilities are available adjacent to the residence halls. 

Dining Options

Our contracted food service provider offers a wide selection of dining services for your convenience in the D. P. Culp Student Center. The Marketplace specializes in cafeteria-style service, with a variety of menu choices available at each meal. Catering services are also available for special functions. The Ballroom has a seating capacity of 700 guests, and there are private dining rooms to accommodate smaller groups. Banquets, receptions, catered lunches and dinners, buffets, picnics and weddings are just a sample of services provided. 

Meeting Facilities 

The D. P. Culp Student Center is a modern, architecturally designed facility that underwent a 42 million dollar renovation in 2019. With more than 238,000 square feet of floor space, the multi-level facility ultimately meets all your conference needs. The Culp Center's facilities include a variety of meeting rooms, dining rooms, conference facilities, a multi-use ballroom and a 900-seat auditorium. All meeting spaces can be equipped to meet your specific audio visual needs. Teleconferencing services are also available. Located adjacent to the Culp Center is a beautifully landscaped outdoor amphitheater that can be used for casual outdoor gatherings.  

Recreational Facilities

ETSU offers a wide variety of recreational and instructional facilities for use by our summer conference groups at an affordable price. The Center for Physical Activity is a state of the art indoor and outdoor complex. The indoor space includes courts that can be used for basketball, soccer, or volleyball; a climbing wall; a group exercise or martial arts studio; pool; racquetball/squash courts; a 15,000 square-foot weight room with cardiovascular stations, free weights, weight machines, and an elevated walking track. Directly adjacent to the Center for Physical Activity is the (Basler Challenge Course) with a Group Interaction Course, 50-foot Climbing Wall, Basler Team Challenge, Aerial Adventure, and a freestanding Alpine Tower.

Also located  beside the CPA are two lighted activity fields that can accommodate a wide range of activities.  The University takes pride in maintaining the  condition of these fields, as they serve as practice facilities for ETSU Athletics during the academic year. These fields can be utilized for a variety of summer activities including soccer, football, softball, and more.

These fields are used during the summer by high school band camps for marching exercises and formations, cheerleading camp instruction, as well as a wide range of group recreational activities. Other facilities available for use by our summer conference groups are outdoor tennis courts, and a sand volleyball court.
