Our office has a variety of resources available to fund undergraduate research and creative projects. All undergraduate students at ETSU are eligible.

Community Engagement Research Grants
The Community Engagement Research Grants support the original community-based research and scholarly activities of undergraduate students working with a faculty mentor that build bridges from the campus to local, regional, and global communities. There are two award cycles (one in fall and one in spring) each academic year, and the maximum award is $1500.

Student-Faculty Collaborative Grants
The Student-Faculty Collaborative Grants (SFCGs) are designed to support the original research and scholarly activities of undergraduate students working with a faculty mentor. The maximum award is $2000. The grants provide funding for purchases that support original undergraduate research and scholarly activity: supplies, equipment, travel for research/scholarly activity (not conferences), recruitment incentives, research software, or other expenses related to the scholarly activity.

Global Research Grants
URCA Global Research Grants are designed to support undergraduate students engaging research experiences around the globe, taking what is learned in class and connecting it to problems, contexts, and communities off campus. Awards may be used in local, regional, or international settings. The maximum award is $3000. The grants provide funding for purchases that support original undergraduate research and scholarly activity: materials and supplies, travel, housing, and tuition and fees.

Research Experiences for Undergraduates Fellowships
URCA Research Experience for Undergraduates Fellowships are designed to support research experiences for undergraduate students during the summer after their sophomore year. Awards are intended to support multi-week summer experiences in which students will participate in research and/or gain research skills. Awardees will be ready and able to integrate those experiences and skills into their academic endeavors in their junior and senior years to help build their paths before and after graduation. Funding can be applied toward participation in formal NSF REU programs, field schools, or other opportunities where students can gain experience in research programs. Students pursuing internships, fellowships, and other education opportunities will be eligible for funding if they have clear and explicit research projects, and have an academic advisor overseeing their program. The maximum award is $5000.

Summer Research Fellowships
The Summer Research Fellowships are designed to support an immersive scholarly activity/original research experience during the summer for undergraduate students working with a faculty mentor. The fellowship provides funding for a scholarship up to $3,000 that can be used to cover summer tuition, plus up to an additional $500 to be used for purchases that support the scholarly activity.Recipients must enroll in at least 1 credit hour in a summer term. The scholarship will then be disbursed to the student via Financial Aid.

Travel Grants
Undergraduate Student Travel Grants are designed to defray all or part of the costs for undergraduate students to present their work at academically-oriented events. Applications will be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis as long as funds remain.The grant amount is up to $500 per student traveling to an academically-oriented event for the purpose of presenting a paper, poster, or performance; exhibiting creative works; or participating in a formal competition.

Research Discovery APS/FWS Positions
The Research Discovery Program is designed to give students exposure to research projects and skills in their fields of study. The program allocates recipients of either Academic Performance Scholarships or Federal Work Study into “research assistant” positions working under the supervision of a campus faculty member.
