Dr. Michael White has enjoyed a career in the sports industry that spans three decades. After having worked eight years as an award-winning sports writer and editor, followed by 16 years as a senior-level administrator in the East Tennessee State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, White is currently a faculty member in the Sport Studies Department at Guilford College. With leadership experience in both internal and external operations, White's areas of expertise include strategic planning, public relations, branding, marketing, sales, crisis management, network production, publicity management, social media activation, and website development. In the classroom, his primary goal is to provide students with real-world knowledge and practical experiences that can be seamlessly utilized in their future careers. A 1996 graduate of Milligan College, where he played four seasons for the Buffaloes' baseball team, White earned his Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Global Sport Leadership from East Tennessee State University in May of 2018, as well as a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) from ETSU in the summer of 2008. White makes his home in Durham, N.C., where he is married to Dr. Sherri L. Smith. They have three children, a 4-year-old daughter named Keagan, a 7-year-old daughter named Raina, and a 14-year-old son named Jackson.
