The Office of Research and Graduate Education in the College of Medicine is administering two types of Quillen Enhancement Awards this year. Both award types serve as internal funding mechanisms available to College of Medicine faculty through a competitive application process.
Quillen Scholarship Enhancement Award
The Quillen Scholarship Enhancement Award program funds research that has a high potential for generating presentations at regional or national meetings and publishable scholarship. It is also anticipated that Scholarship Enhancement Awards will help launch research that may lead to future local or extramural grant application submissions.
The primary goal of this program is to provide an avenue for faculty to increase and publish their scholarship activities. The maximum funding for any application is $5,000 per year for one year for Scholarship Enhancement Awards.
Preference will be given to applicants pursuing educational research, especially those who engage residents or students in conducting the project.
Quillen Research Enhancement Award
The Quillen Research Enhancement Award program funds research projects with strong potential for extramural grant funding but limited preliminary data. The program supports faculty in generating the data needed to pursue external funding opportunities.
The program has three primary objectives. First, it helps junior faculty members, including assistant and associate professors, transition to independent, extramurally funded researchers. This includes encouraging research collaborations through mentor-mentee relationships with senior investigators.
Second, it assists faculty who have previously received extramural funding but are experiencing a lapse in support. These funds help generate data for new grant applications or resubmissions.
Third, it supports senior faculty who need preliminary data to pursue external grant funding or resubmit applications.
The primary goal of the program is to provide a pathway for faculty to secure future extramural funding. The maximum award is $25,000 for a one-year project period.
Applications will be reviewed internally by a group of established researchers at the College of Medicine. If your application is chosen for funding, you may be required to respond to reviewer comments prior to initiation of the award.
The anticipated date for disbursement of grant funds is July 1, 2025. Please email Amy Gravitte (berryag@etsu.edu) for application instructions and forms for each award. Please review the specific Terms and Conditions of Award before submitting application materials.
Applications are due May 1, 2025.
