Honors
At the Early Childhood Conference on July 19, 2025, a standout moment captured the attention of more than 240 attendees: Dr. Pam Evanshen was honored with the Dr. Rebecca Isbell Award for Outstanding Contributions to Early Childhood Education. Congratulations to Dr. Evanshen on this well-earned honor. Her work continues to shape the future of early childhood education in powerful and lasting ways. Dr. Christy Isbell Weems honors her mother, Dr. Rebecca Isbell at our Summer conference. A passionate and beloved former faculty member. Dr. Isbell inspired many people in the region as a professor in the ETSU Early Childhood Program, former chair of the Center of Excellence in Early Childhood Development and Learning, author, and internationally renowned speaker. Our Summer 2025 Early Childhood Conference theme “Live, Laugh, Love” represents her always heart filled and joyful demeanor.

Hybrid Cohort Spring 2024
During the hybrid PhD cohort gathering in March 2024 students met the graduate faculty in a speed dating format where they learned different aspects of qualitative research from faculty.

Hybrid Cohort Spring 2024
During the spring 2024 on-campus weekend in March doctoral students met with Dr. Facun-Granadozo (left) and Dr. Evanshen (right). The two collaborated to offer experiences with qualitative coding processes related to interviews of early childhood leaders. The collaboration extends the learning from the ECED 7812 Early Childhood Qualitative Research and ECED 6620 Leadership, Admin, and Supervision in Early Childhood.

Many Early Childhood faculty and students presented at the annual Narional Association for the Education of Young Childrren (NAEYC) and National Association for Early Childhood Teacher Educators (NAECTE) conferences in Nashville in November 2024.

Keynote Presentation
Congratulations to Dr. Malkus, for her keynote presentation at the Association for Constructivist Teaching conference in Boone in October 2023. Her talk, From Algorithms to Imagination: Crafting a Constructivist Learning Voyage with AI, was very current with highlights about the value of AI when used with intention.
