TECTA provides FREE 30-hour orientation training classes. These orientations are approved by DHS and meet annual training hour requirements. Also, DHS counts the 30-hours of training for 2 years of training hours.
How do I register for an Orientation?
Fill out this Orientation Enrollment Form, scan, and email or fax it to the ETSU office. Classes are based on space availability; on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Who is eligible to take an orientation?
All childcare providers who are employed in a licensed family or group home or licensed childcare center in Tennessee are eligible to participate. -
What types of orientations do you offer?
Orientation classes are offered for center-based (ages 3-5), infant/toddler (birth-3), school-age, administrator and family home childcare providers. Participants choose one type to attend. -
Where are orientations offered?
Classes are offered at various location in our 15 county service area: Carter, Claiborne, Cocke, Grainger, Greene, Hamblen, Hancock, Hawkins, Jefferson, Johnson, Sevier, Sullivan, Unicoi, Union and Washington. Please see the schedule for exact locations per semester. -
Do I have to complete all 30 hours?
Only students who complete all 30 hours of training will receive a TECTA Orientation completion certificate. Hours can be used for the DHS continued annual training requirements. -
Why should I attend a TECTA orientation?
By completing a TECTA 30-hour orientation, students are eligible to receive tuition assistance from TECTA to attend college level courses at an area community college. Students may reveive scholarships money to apply for their CDA. Also, completing a TECTA orientation provides the student with the knowledge needed to provide quality childcare, thus improving their star rating in the areas of professional development and program assessment!
