Are you seeking an advanced degree? Do you have a passion for the business of sport?
The ETSU graduate Sport Management degree provides students with the opportunity to critically examine a wide variety of sport industry-related themes and issues. Our program emphasizes both academic preparation along with required practical field experiences.

Successful alumni working in a large array of sport fields including the NCAA, Power 5 schools, pro sports, HS sports, as well as recreational sport fields. For example, 85% of 2018-2019 graduate work full-time in sport industry
Although the number of potential careers within athletics is virtually limitless, here are just a few examples:
- Sport Performance Segment: collegiate athletics director, racetrack marketing director, private fitness facility manager, campus recreation director, professional promotions coordinator, collegiate ticket sales manager, etc...
- Sport Production Segment: sales representative for a sports equipment company, manager for a sporting goods retail store, events coordinator at a professional facility, etc...
- Sport Promotion Segment: sport media producer, financial analyst for a sport sponsorship management company, legal consultant for a sport business licensing company, etc...
Admission Requirements
Regular Admission:
Each of the following items are required for admission into the graduate-level Sport Management Program. The review committee considers everything equally, so being particular strong in one area could definitely help you gain admission despite a weakness in one or more of the other categories.
- Undergraduate degree in physical education, exercise science, sport management or closely related field (Transcripts required for all universities attended, incl. dual-credit programs)
- 2.7 cumulative undergraduate grade point average on a 4.0 scale
- Resume and contact information (i.e., name, address, telephone, e-mail address) for at least three academic references
- Essay explaining goals and reasons for desiring to study with the Sport Management Program
Conditional Admission:
Students who are unable to meet regular admission requirements, may apply for conditional admission.

- SALM 5430 Administration of Sport, Esports, & Recreation (3)
- SALM 5670 Sport Management Research (3)
- SALM 5220 Issues in Sport Management (3)
- SALM 5225 Facilities and Event Management in Sport & Recreation (3)
- SALM 5232 Sport Communication and Media Relations (3)
- SALM 5245 The Financing of Sport (3)
- SALM 5243 Sport, Esport, and Recreation Marketing (3)
- PEXS 5960 Thesis (6) OR
- SALM 5250 Internship in Sport Management (6)
Electives (3-6 hours)
- As approved by the Advisor, such as Esports Management & Governance, Sport in Society, Sport Sales, or Esports Performance Mgmt, among others
- Thesis students - 3 credit hours
- Non-Thesis students (internship) - 6 credit hours
Total: 33 (Thesis) or 36 (Non-Thesis) Hours

Financial Assistance
Various forms of financial assistance are available through the Office of Financial Aid. In addition, Graduate Assistantships and Tuition Scholarships are available in the Department of Sport, Exercise, Recreation, and Kinesiology (SERK) that include teaching in the Active Lifestyles and Wellness Program, research assistants with SERK Faculty, and various other duties. Other opportunities may be available in campus recreation, intercollegiate athletics, student activities, and other campus areas.
