Vision

The vision for the Department of Accountancy at East Tennessee State University is to be the Accountancy program of choice for a high quality education.

Goals

  • Educate students to become competent and critical thinking accounting professionals who can navigate through technology advancements and drive an ethical culture.
  • Encourage faculty to produce high quality intellectual contributions that are relevant and practical and that advance the common body of knowledge in the profession.
  • Foster a culture that inspires impactful and personally fulfilling service activities at the university, college, community, and professional level.

Department of Accountancy Strategic Objectives

  • Promote and support faculty development in technology advancements, accounting laws and regulations, and innovative pedagogy to keep accounting faculty relevant.
  • Create opportunities for students to receive a transformative learning experience that prepares them for careers in accounting including critical thinking, technology, and oral/written communication skills.
  • Foster relationships with employers to ensure curriculum meets the recruitment requirements of the workforce.
  • Support faculty in producing intellectual contributions in publications and department led conferences that update accounting professionals concerning regulatory and professional standards.
  • Encourage faculty to seek service opportunities to use their skills and knowledge to impact both internal and external communities.
  • Strive for a M.Acc. graduate student pass rate on professional exams that exceeds state and national averages.
  • Seek to attain 100% employment for accounting M.Acc. graduates.
  • Teach and train M.Acc. students to think holistically in terms of problem solving for accounting and business issues.
  • Expand M.Acc. students’ understanding of technology’s role in solving complex issues that businesses encounter.
