Charge: |
Periodically review and update the philosophy and goals of ETSU’s general education program and associated graduation requirements (i.e., the using information technology proficiency requirement; across-the-curriculum requirements in oral communication, writing, and using information technology). Promote the philosophy of general education and associated graduation requirements among students, faculty and staff. Review course proposals related to the general education core and recommend action. Through subcommittees of the GEAC, review course proposals related to the information technology requirement and across-the-curriculum requirements. Require and review university-wide assessments of graduating students’ knowledge, skills, and/or values related to general education and the associated graduation requirements. Propose improvement actions in response to assessment findings. Develop and review policies regarding the general education program and associated ETSU graduation requirements. |
Attendance Policy: | The GEAC meets, as necessary, on the first Wednesday of the month from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Deans should nominate faculty members to serve on the Committee only after confirming that they can attend meetings occurring at this time for the entire academic year. If a voting member of the GEAC misses two meetings (not necessarily consecutive) of the GEAC within one academic year, the Provost will ask the dean of the member’s college or school to confirm whether the member should remain on the Committee. If a voting member misses a third meeting of the Committee within the same academic year, the Provost will ask the dean of the member’s college or school to replace the member immediately. (Approved by the GEAC April 7, 2004) |
