EH&S provides support for the use of radioactive materials, X-ray machines, and other sources of radiation at East Tennessee State University. The mission of the radiation safety office includes permitting use of radioactive materials, ensuring radioactive material facilities promote safety and compliance, dosimetry, survey meter calibration, leak test and sealed source inventories, radiation safety training, radioactive waste management, receives, processes, delivers and keeps inventory of all radioactive materials, supports and interacts with ETSU’s Radiation Safety Committee, which establishes policy and assures regulatory compliance within the University community. EH&S maintains compliance with state and federal regulations as well as maintaining the university's broad scope license for radioactive materials as well as the registration for radiation producing machines (X-rays).
The Radiation Safety program provides the following services:
