East Tennessee State University offers accredited, affordable online programs with competitive tuition and fees. On this page you can find out more about our financial aid options, scholarships, and other tuition discounts.
Tuition and Fees: Undergraduate Students
eRate
Students who are out-of-state residents, who do not live in a select border county, and are enrolled exclusively in online courses and/or programs will receive the eRate. To qualify for the eRate, you must:
- meet all ETSU admission requirements
- be verified as an online out-of-state student
- be registered in all online courses eligible for the eRate. Courses must be defined in GoldLink with a 9xx section number and identify Web as the instructional method
You will not be eligible for any other scholarships or financial support directly from ETSU during any term where you receive the eRate. However, you may be eligible for federal financial aid.

Scholarships
A scholarship is a financial award given to a student based on factors such as academic achievement, selected major, hometown or financial need. Scholarships do not have to be repaid.
Financial need = Cost to Attend (budget) - Expected Family Contribution (EFC)
*EFC is calculated automatically when you fill out the (FAFSA)

Financial Aid
Financial aid can help you pay for classes. The first step to getting financial aid is filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This information is used to determine whether you are eligible for federal grants, certain scholarships, and work-study programs.
