Sport science and coaching education is an interdisciplinary field that combines principles of sport science, coaching, and management to enhance athletic performance and promote overall athlete well-being. The M.S. in Sport Science and Coach Education aims to provide current or aspiring strength coaches, athletes, and fitness professionals with the knowledge and tools needed to prepare for roles in strength and conditioning and sport coaching.
There is widespread interest and awareness of the need to educate sport scientists and coaches and to target athletic performance rather than participation. This refocus is expected to lower the incidence of sport injuries and increase levels of performance achievement for athletes.
Through research and education, this sport science and coaching education degree equips students to excel in coaching roles across various levels by combining scientific principles with practical coaching strategies.

Professional Excellence
The online Strength and Conditioning concentration is among the few of its kind in the United States and is recognized for producing some of the best strength and conditioning coaches in the nation. The program is integrated with the ETSU Center of Excellence for Sport Science and Coach Education (CESSCE).
Objectives of the CESSCE include improvement of athlete performance; better understanding of the role of sport and sports performance in the health and well-being of the nation; and the impact of disability, injury, and disease on sports participation and performance. The specialized research possibilities could reveal findings that would impact the quality of life of athletes and the general public. Students are invited to be involved in clinics for coaches, continuing education programs, and activities that permeate the sports community.
