Definition
Employees in this class are under the general supervision of a counselor or a related professional position and are responsible for maintaining complete office clerical operations in the testing area and carrying out a wide range of coordination routines required for the provision of testing services in a guidance and counseling and testing or related center.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Oversees specific clerical office routines required for the provision of testing services for students or clients.
Tests handicapped students on a one-to-one basis.
Carries out requests for testing services.
Responsible for all people during testing situations as well as for monitors/proctors and facilities used.
Composes correspondence and answers inquiries.
Administers and scores numerous tests from a large testing program.
Handles a variety of aspects pertaining to test scoring and carries out verbal and written reporting routines.
Gives in some cases interpretation or evaluation of test results to those tested, to appropriate academicians and administrators.
Maintains current inventory for supplies of tests and related materials.
Insures the confidentiality and security of tests through effective office control procedures.
Maintains and updates records and reports.
Performs related duties as required.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
Knowledge of gathering, assembling and summarizing data.
Ability to oversee a large testing program on a college campus.
Ability to maintain the security of tests.
Ability to apply the principles and practices of administering and scoring tests.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Some college training desirable, preferably two years academic coursework in a college or university. Experience involving contact with the public requiring skills in public speaking. Must meet any requirements established by the various testing programs relating to the administration and scoring of their tests.
