Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in repair and maintenance of telecommunications equipment. Performs related duties as assigned.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Isolate, diagnose and repair problems with station wiring, instruments, or other equipment.
Complete installations, repairs, maintenance and/or calibrations on telecommunications equipment.
Read diagrams, schematics, blueprints and technical manuals for repair and diagnostic information.
Perform a variety of telecommunications tests and checks utilizing telecommunications test equipment.
Inspect and/or install station wiring, instruments and other equipment.
Maintain cable and equipment records.
Use CRT to make less complex update of switch system software.
Perform related work as required.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of modern telecommunication principles and procedures.
Knowledge of tools and equipment used in telecommunications work.
Ability to isolate, diagnose, and troubleshoot problems with telecommunications equipment and wiring using schematics, diagrams, etc.
Ability to repair, maintain and install telecommunications equipment.
Ability to maintain records on equipment and equipment maintenance.
Ability to evaluate situations and make decisions.
Ability to inspect equipment for upkeep requirements.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with others.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school including or supplemented by courses in current digital electronics or current computer maintenance technology. Successful work experience in increasingly responsible technical position in the field of telecommunications.
