Definition   

Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in administrative functions, and maintenance and upkeep of boilers and related systems. Performs other duties as assigned. 

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

Plans and assigns work.

Maintains various logs and files.

Orders parts and supplies.

Assumes responsibility for maintenance and upkeep of boilers and related systems.

Inspects repairs for completeness and compliance to safety standards.

Functions as shift operator to operate boilers and chillers as necessary.

Drives truck and operates forklift.

Trains new boiler operators.

Performs other duties as assigned. 

Required Knowledge and Abilities

Ability to plan and organize the work of others.

Ability to inspect work for completeness and quality.

Administrative and supervisory abilities.

Ability to operate machines and tools of the steam/chiller trade.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. 

Recommended Qualifications

Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. High school graduate or equivalent; vocational school certificate or completion of apprenticeship in steam and chiller operation; plus one year steam and chiller experience; must possess valid operator's license. Supervisory experience helpful.
